Required Syllabus Components

  • Statement of what core or graduation requirement(s) the course counts toward (if relevant)
  • Clear enumeration of student learning outcomes
  • Outline of content and schedule of coursework
  • Student requirements (reading, assignments, written work, projects, etc.), including brief descriptions of assignments and projects
  • Evaluation criteria and grading structure (as appropriate)
  • Course readings and other course materials (as appropriate)
  • Statement of policies regarding Academic Integrity (this statement is developed by the course proposer)
  • Required Syllabus Inserts (listed below)

Note that much of the required syllabus language is now housed on an Academic and Administrative Policies tab in all courses in Canvas. We ask that faculty publish their Canvas courses by the start of classes each semester, with an uploaded copy of their syllabus at minimum, whether or not they plan to use Canvas for course management.
