In each issue of Arches, Logger Lookback offers a peek into Puget Sound鈥檚 pictorial past.

A sea of mortarboards is punctuated by aviators, wraparounds, and sunglasses of all kinds on a surprisingly sunny day in Tacoma, in this archive photo from 1997. The Pacific Northwest spring weather was in rare form for that morning鈥檚 Commencement exercises, held at Baker Stadium. Even 28 years later, the buzz of energy among the graduates is palpable. This moment is the culmination of semesters of lost sleep, last-minute papers, study sessions with friends, and education being put into action on and off campus. The faculty, too, are visibly proud of their students鈥 academic achievements, personal growth, and the immeasurable potential of their future out in the world as Loggers for life. Do you remember how you felt on your graduation day?
Class of 1997, do you recognize your friends in the crowd? It鈥檚 not too early to make plans to see them at the 2027 reunion. Share your memories with us by emailing arches@pugetsound.edu.
